Noticias:Wikimedia México en el Día del Software Libre 2011
Wikimedia México fue invitada a participar en el Día del Software Libre 2011, el cual se realizó el pasado 24 de septiembre de 2011 en las instalaciones de Telmex Hub, en la Ciudad de México. Tradicionalmente, se realiza el tercer fin de semana de septiembre, aunque esta ocasión debido a las fiestas patrias de México, se trasladó al sábado siguiente. Nuestra participación fue con mi charla sobre el como el software libre hizo posible a Wikipedia. En la reunión, a la que acudieron unas 50 personas, estuvieron presentes otras comunidades tecnológicas como Mozilla México, Ubuntu DF, Geek Army, y programadores de PHP y Debian.
El evento tiene como objetivo el comunicar a la sociedad información sobre el software libre y sus aspectos positivos.
Dentro de la charla, hice una narración sobre los orígenes históricos de la idea de concentrar el conocimiento humano en un solo sitio o lugar; y luego, el como la tecnología hizo posible el proyecto. Desde el primer Wiki de Ward Cunningham, pasando por ModWiki y hasta el actual software MediaWiki, el cual soporta todos los proyectos Wikimedia. Algunos asistentes mostraron su asombro en la parte final de la charla sobre las cifras de los proyectos. Algunas preguntas de los asistentes versaron sobre la veracidad y la calidad de contenidos de Wikipedia, como es costumbre. Dentro del mismo encuentro fue posible platicar con distintos entusiastas del conocimiento y el software libre, con algunos de los cuales se platicó sobre colaborar en un futuro.

Wikimedia México was invited to participate in the Software Freedom Day 2011. This event was made it en the Telmex Hub facilities in Mexico City. Traditionally are held the third weekend in September but for this occasion was taken to saturday due to national holidays. Our involvement related about how free software made it possible Wikipedia. The meeting was attended by 50 people present were other technology communities such as Mozilla Mexico, Ubuntu DF, Geek Army, and PHP and Debian programmers.
The objective of this annual day was to comunicate to the public information about the free software and the positive aspects of this subject.
In the talk was explained the origine about the concentration of the the human knowledge in one place, to the the know how of the technology that made possible the project. From the first wiki of Ward Cunningham, to the ModWiki until the actual MediaWiki Software, wich make possible the wikimedia projects. The participants expressed their surprise at the end of the talk about the numbers of projects. Some questions from the audience focused on the veracity and quality of content from Wikipedia, as usual. In the same meeting it was possible to chat with other fans of knowledge and free software, some of whom talked about collaborating in the future.
